About

Neuropsychological assessments are designed to help you learn more about your child, including their strengths and vulnerabilities, and how they experience day-to-day life. This can include tests that examine IQ, academic achievement, and other specific cognitive abilities (e.g., executive functioning, attention, information processing), in addition to questionnaires pertaining to general behavior, social-emotional wellbeing, and personality.

There are many reasons a client may be referred for testing. Common referrals include concerns about ADHD, learning disabilities, social-emotional or behavioral difficulties, in addition to other cognitive or psychological struggles.

Information gathered through an evaluation is put together to help clarify how and why a person behaves in the way that they do. With a more comprehensive understanding of functioning, we are able to identify or clarify diagnoses (when applicable) and make personalized recommendations to optimally support individuals across a wide range of environments (school, socially, and at home).

Process

The process for testing varies from person to person but in general you can expect the following for a full evaluation:

  • A 60-minute intake appointment to discuss concerns and obtain information about the child’s background and history

  • 4 to 8 hours of face-to-face testing, assessing a wide-range of cognitive and academic skills

  • Questionnaires and checklists for both parents, the client, and teachers

  • School observation (if applicable)

  • 1-2 hour feedback session

  • Written report outlining all tests results and recommendations including specific referrals in your community and evidenced-based strategies or interventions

Briefer evaluations and screenings are also offered, which include an intake appointment, followed by a limited battery of face-to-face tests and/or questionnaires.
